We said a sad farewell to the family yesterday and went back to the caravan in Camping La Manga.
We are staying at the campsite as part of a Camping and Caravanning Club Rally at La Manga. The CCC in England run a network of winter sun rallies across Spain and Portugal. This means that they block book a section of the campsite for their members and arrange various excursions and activities, in the daytime and evening, which you can choose to be part of or not, just as you wish. This is one of the biggest rallies in Spain and has lots of activities to choose from such as daily walks, cycles, craft sessions, race nights, casino nights, dinner dances, BBQs to name but a few. It’s a really good way to meet new people and share intelligence on good campsites and, of course, those to avoid.
Today we took the opportunity to join a cycle ride out along the La Manga strip to Puerto Tomas Maestre and back, a distance of some 25 miles round trip. There were about eighteen of us and we stopped for a well earned coffee and cognac at the port before heading back to camp. Roland and I felt particularly virtuous as we have not yet succumbed to buying bikes with any power assistance. Although, having seen those with power kick it off and steam ahead up a steep incline whilst we pedalled like mad and coughed up blood, we certainly wouldn’t rule it out as a future option if the knees give out…but not yet.
