Saturday/Sunday 1st January - New Years Eve at La Manga (Spain)

The rally held a dinner dance at the beach-side restaurant this evening to celebrate the New Year.  We decided this was not for us because a) The tickets were a bit pricey, b) Angela doesn’t have a posh frock with her, the nearest she could manage would be her best pair of shorts and c) because the grand finale is the fireworks on the beach and this is open for anyone to attend anyway.  We had a few drinks in the caravan before donning several layers of clothing and ambling onto the beach at around 11pm, armed with a bottle of fizz and some glasses.  There were already a couple of big bonfires burning and lots of people gathered around.  At the stroke of midnight (11pm English time) everyone came out of the dinner dance  and down onto the beach too, the traditional Auld Lang Syne was sung and we wished each other a Happy New Year.  Then followed a brilliant firework display.  Afterwards we were able to ring the family and wish them Happy New Year, ahead of time for a change.
