Thursday 11th August 2016 Romanshorn, Lake Constance, Switzerland

We lazed about in the sun in the morning then cycled down to Romanshorn, one of the lakeside towns, in the afternoon.  It’s  around 8km and there are cycle paths all the way.  The cycle paths are all well signposted, as are the the walking and skating routes – skating routes have a little roller skating boot as a symbol.  You can get maps that show you all three types of route. We had thought at first that skating routes were for ice skating in the winter.  We have a “Skatingrouten” map and the routes shown vary from 18km to 54km – that’s serious skating.  Lucy and Ross would love it!
We cycled along the lakeside for another couple of kilometres then ate our lunch at the water’s edge. We were considering a trip across the lake if the cost wasn’t prohibitive so I went to the Tourist Information office to find out more.  Unfortunately, the person behind the desk was not in the least bit helpful.  This wasn’t due to any language barrier.  She was just very cold and seemed entirely unsuited to the job – unless they’re trying to reduce the number of visitors for some reason.  Anyway, I gave up in the end and decided to try elsewhere tomorrow.  The cycle back was very hot and mostly uphill – hoorah for cold beer!
