Wednesday 10th August 2016 Staufen to Taschliberg, Lake Constance, Switzerland

Today we say farewell to Camping Belchenblick.  We have had a lovely 11 days enjoying the site and surrounding area, but now it’s time to move on.  We’ll miss lovely Erica-Ann who was always so welcoming when we picked up our bread in the morning and we’ll miss the lovely little town of Staufen.

It was a bit of a shock getting back in the car as we haven’t been in it since we arrived 11 days ago; we prefer to walk, cycle or use public transport whenever we can.  That way, Roland get’s to enjoy the excursions as much as I do.  We hit a torrential rain storm on the way to Taschliberg , making driving and navigating quite difficult.  However, that wasn’t as difficult as parting with the forty odd Euros it cost to buy a vignette to enable us to travel on the Swiss motorway.  Roland is still in recovery!

Having just moved out of the wine producing region of Germany we have now arrived in the apple growing area of Switzerland – never fear, we brought wine with us.  We are staying at Manser Ferien which is a working farm and the camp ground is in the apple orchard. It’s lovely and it’s run by a lovely young couple, Dominik and Barbara Manser.  On arrival, Dominik took us to the orchard and told us where the sun comes up and goes down and told us to walk around for a bit and choose our spot.  He’d then make sure he got electric connection to us.  It was great to have a free choice of space and to have room to spread out, no pitches or boundaries.  He also gave us a free bottle of apple juice, produced on the farm, in celebration of the ten year anniversary of the campsite.  There weren’t many people around, maybe a dozen or so at that time but more have arrived since.  The children in Switzerland go back to school next week, so this is coming towards the end of the main season for the Swiss.  Of course, there are still lots of German and Dutch campers and the occasional British visitor too.

We only booked here for three nights because I wasn’t quite sure how rustic it would be, but I needn’t have worried.  The amenities are very modern and spotlessly clean.  We immediately extended our booking to seven nights.

It’s also an ideal camping spot for hikers and cyclists as it has wonderful undercover facilities.  There's a large chalet with covered veranda and inside is a large kitchen/dining/lounging area. The kitchen is fully equipped with crockery, pots and pans etc.  as well as a cooker, microwave and two huge fridge freezers that everyone is free to use.

There’s also a terrific fire pit with huge logs and an axe so all you need to do is go out and shoot something to eat!
