We have moved to another campsite further along the coast of Portugal at Albufreira. It's a lovely green site although the ground is a bit soggy in places as they have had some rain of late. Luckily, we seem to have brought the sunshine with us though because today it is gloriously sunny and really quite hot. We walked the thirty minutes or so into Albufiera, passing several orange sellers at the roadside on the way and vowing to buy a bag on the way home. The oranges here a large and sweet and at two euros fifty for a 4kg bag they're a steal.
There are quite a number of souvenir shops and places to eat in Albufeira old town but you have to search to find anywhere selling authentic Portuguese food rather than hamburger and chips or pizzas. The traditional menu of the day in a Portuguese restaurant might include soup to start, a choice of calamaris (not the fried rings), hake or meat and potatoes in gravy, custard dessert to follow, coffee and a half bottle of wine for between ten and fifteen euros. The food is tasty and the quality excellent.
The beach is sandy and beautifully clean. Having had a paddle we settled in a front row seat at the beach bar and soaked up the sun (and the wine).
