Today we made the short journey into Lagos (pronounced
Lagosh). Roland was here some years ago when he was holidaying in Alvor
just down the coast. Luckily, Lagos is still a nice town to visit with
plenty of interesting little streets lined with lots of small independent shops
and cafes.
The sun had come out so we enjoyed sitting in the sunshine
while having our lunch in one of the little squares. Roland had the traditional
Piri Piri chicken, but Angela wouldn't risk it in case it was too spicy.
We followed this with some ice cream from a vendor. Again, Roland
was the adventurous one and had tequila with almond and figs. We both were given rather over generous helpings, so it is possible that the young lady that served us may not be
employed there much longer.
After lunch we took time to walk along the cobbled promenade
to the small fortification, Forte da Ponta da Bandeira. This provided us
with a good view towards Lagos marina. We also enjoyed the number of interesting sculptures by Jose Maria S Pereira at on the top of the
fort.
