Roland has picked up a stomach bug so is not venturing out at present, but Angela went down into Vilanova today with Les and Bob to peruse the shops. As well as having a long, sandy beach, Vilanova is quite a big town with a good selection of clothes shops, shoe shops and eateries, as well as the usual range of ‘Spanish’ Chinese shops.
There was much activity in the old town today as a film crew had arrived and dressed the streets for filming. There was a particularly attractive little lemon tree in a ceramic pot outside one of the buildings and it was loaded with lemons. It was only when a local lady drew our attention to it that we realised that every lemon had been attached to the tree individually with green wire. There were several actors and actresses waiting around in their costumes but with blankets wrapped around them during the long breaks between filming. The narrow streets had been festooned with ‘washing’ but if you walked under the washing you could see all the folds where the sheets etc. had been taken straight out of packages and hung up. We couldn’t ascertain what the film was but it was to star an actress that’s world famous in Spain but that I hadn’t heard of. Many eagerly awaited her arrival but we soon got bored of the inactivity between shots and drifted away.
Having spent a couple of hours around the shops in town, we went to Bob’s favourite bar, Equus, at the end of the seafront. The patio in front of the bar is a sun trap and the owner is extremely generous with the tapas, bringing delicious hot and cold snacks with every round of drinks. It’s a lovely place to soak up the sun, eat, drink and people watch.
