Another family tradition is a Boxing Day walk and this year is no exception, but there’s not a woolly hat or scarf in sight. Today we drove to Calblanque Regional Park which is just a few miles from the villa. It is a Protected Natural Area and a Nature Reserve. The area is completely unspoiled, having no shops, restaurants, bars or cafes. We parked the car and set off on what was reputed to be a 2.5 hour circular walk.
Unfortunately, it proved to be poorly sign posted from the outset and all four of us had to head off in different directions periodically to try and find the correct path on which to make progress. We knew we had to circumnavigate a large rock which was high up on our left but although we walked and walked we felt we weren’t getting much further around it. Truth to tell, it was a beautifully warm, sunny day when we set off but from midday onwards it gradually became much hotter than we were prepared for, which probably also added to the distance we felt we had walked.
That dratted rock Where the heck are we?
We were somewhat relieved to eventually come to a point where the coast appeared on our right; a landmark we had been looking for. There are lovely sandy beaches in the Nature Reserve and the views along this section of the walk are quite spectacular.

We were relieved to pass a Spanish family who confirmed we were on the right track, not least because we were beginning to fear that dusk would fall before we made it back to the car. We certainly had a jolly good walk of several hours duration, much longer than expected and we thoroughly earned a cup of tea and mince pie and the end of it.
Home at last
