Sunday 6th November - Congenies, France

Well, the Quaker retreat has finished and, as it was such a lovely day, it was decided that the final lunch should be held in the garden.   Actually this garden is the cemetery, but is ideal as it is enclosed and therefore is both a sun trap and protection from any wind.  As you can see it was a sunny day but a little cold at times when the sun disappeared for the odd few minutes, hence the jackets.

We were pleased that we had been invited to lunch and even more so for the fact that we were surrounded by Friends who spoke English and this enabled us to be fully involved in the lunch-time conversations.  It was nice to be able to get a different perspective on things back at home too.  As we know, life is not easy for some and the community here is doing its part in trying to help make lives better for people.  As small as the village of Congenies is, it has taken in a refugee family and provides all the resources (food, clothing, accommodation, living expenses and moral support) to help get them started.

Being in Congenies has reminded us how much better life is with friends around you (with a small f and a large F), and how much we miss our friends and family back home.
