Just time for a couple of photos of the campsite on the lake, Camping Zagreb, before we leave.
When we set off from Zagreb we were heading for Zadar on the Croatian coast but the roads and weather conditions were so good that we decided to miss out Zadar and push on down to Split. We telephoned the campsite in Split to see if we could reserve a pitch but this wasn’t possible. However, we weren’t concerned because we’d made such an early start that we were scheduled to arrive by 2pm which would usually guarantee you a pitch off season, although sites start getting very busy from 4pm onwards.
When we arrived at the site we couldn’t pull across the road to the entrance as another caravan and car were in the way. Angela got out to ask if reception was closed (they often close for a couple of hours over lunch) but the Dutch couple said reception is open but the campsite is full, they have no pitches at all. Having been on the road for some five hours, and without any alternative sites to fall back on, this was not good news. Angela went into reception and they said the best they could offer was that we park in their car park overnight in the hope that a pitch would become free tomorrow. Having no alternative, we gladly took up the offer. Fortunately, we were also able to hook up to electricity from the car park, although the view from our caravan was definitely the worst view to date.
The lovely view from our caravan door, night one in Split! At least we know where the bins are!
We set the caravan down and went off to explore the camp and see if we’d want to stay tomorrow if a pitch became vacant. We decided we would.
