So it’s goodbye to Vienna and off to Zagreb. Don’t ask Roland what he thought of Vienna because he’ll say “It means nothing to me” – a ‘joke’ that he’s enjoyed for some four days now!
On the way to Zagreb we were routed onto a single track for several miles due to road construction work. There was obviously major construction of a long new stretch of motorway in progress. The road we were diverted onto was very bumpy and we had to go quite slowly as Roland was really worried about the car’s suspension. He’d been complaining about the state of the road for some miles when we drove through a section where the motorway construction was going on high above us on either side. Suddenly, we saw a car towing a caravan stopped in front of us. Another vehicle was stopped on the opposite highway and there was tree debris all around . As we passed we saw that a huge tree root had dropped down in front of the car on our side of the carriageway and the driver couldn’t avoid hitting it. Luckily, it was a slow stretch of road so they could stop and very lucky that it hadn’t landed on top of the car. We were only minutes away from it being us so there was no more complaining about the road from then on.
It took me a few seconds to get the joke...then I really laughed... :)
