We’re being very spoiled on this campsite as we’ve been given the keys to our own private shower room for the duration of our stay – there’s posh! And we didn’t even have to pay extra. It has a loo, washbasin, shower and bidet. It isn’t en-suite, or even en-street, being some 200 metres away, but it’s very much appreciated nonetheless. Actually, even the facilities for ‘common’ use are very modern and smart and there are rooms with baths as well as showers, which is something I haven’t seen on a site before. We also don’t have to carry water as each pitch has it’s own tap so we have fresh water, straight from the mountains, delivered to our door.
Talking of water delivered to the door, last night there was a terrific thunderstorm with torrential rain and spectacular lightning. As our Germany neighbour said, quite a welcome for our first night. This morning there were lots of campers inspecting the damage to awnings etc. and we had been really worried about our little sun shade that we homemade from a £20 tarp we bought in Decathlon but, miraculously, it seemed to handle the drama without incident and stood up better than many more expensive examples on site.
Storm over, we were left with a lovely sunny day so we went for a walk into Krun, the nearest village to us. We bought a local walking/cycling map and all of the hiking/cycle ways are very well marked along the routes, with approximate time distances from point to point shown in minutes on the signposts. I love the precise organisation of this but Roland thinks it’s too organized for his taste, preferring the wild landscape of Cornwall with the vagaries of the signage, necessity for using map and compass and multiple opportunities to get totally lost!
Visitors to the area get a free pass to use on the hiking buses so you don’t always have to take circular walking routes, which is a bonus. But they don’t carry bicycles.
Krun is a very small town/village, having one local supermarket, four hairdressers, a bakery and a coffee shop. But it also has a large Tourist Information office that doesn’t close at lunch time – this is a first. Outside the TI is a picture of Angela Merkell and Barack Obama together at the TI. We also noticed that all of the manhole covers and drains en-route had been sealed, presumably part of the security for the recent visit.
We enjoyed a decent cup of coffee and delicious cake in the bakery, having not, at that point, discovered the coffee shop.
