Saturday 30th July 2016 - Heidelberg

It’s another very sunny day. We couldn’t seem to get the macro or flash buttons to work on our new camera and, as we would be moving on shortly, we needed to take it back to the shop and get it sorted out. We were pretty sure that we just needed an instruction manual to resolve the issue but, as is the way these days, you have to download the manual. This is fine when you’re at home and have unlimited internet access but we don’t, so we start the day going back to the TI office and trying to download the manual using their Wi-Fi. This failing, we had to go back to Saturn (electrical discount store). The guy at the service help desk, Alexandra, was super helpful and pressed all the buttons he could (as we did before) to try and work out how the camera functioned. In the end he had to go back to the camera department to ask the man ‘who dreams cameras in his sleep’ for assistance. He quickly showed Roland how to resolve the problem and we started the day again.
We thought the city was busy yesterday but today it is positively heaving. We try to take a couple of photos but now the camera says the memory is locked. We hadn’t actually done anything since we were at the shop and eventually concluded that when our helpful assistant and been pressing all the buttons he’d accidentally locked the memory. Arghh! We tried unsuccessfully to resolve the issue using much the same means as had caused the problem in the first place i.e. unrestrained and random pressing of buttons. Back to the TI office we go to try and download the manual again. Eventually, Roland manages to release the lock and we are both pretty fed up. In Luxembourg we had too much time but here there was so much we wanted to do and time was running out. It was still blisteringly hot so we had to decide which things we could do in the time left and plumped for a visit to the schloss and buying the very best ice cream we could find.

                                                                                                                                                                                €9 worth of bliss !

The steep walk up to the schloss was both punishing and rewarding with wonderful views of both the schloss and the city… and the ice cream from Amarino was simply amazing.

A picture of and old ruin and a castle !  (more pictures later in the gallery)

Very sad that we didn’t get to walk the Philosophemweg or see the Thingstatte but I’m determined to revisit Heidelberg.
