Saturday, 20th August 2016 - Innsbruck, Austria

Unusually, today we took the car out and drove into Innsbruck.  We investigated going by train but it was expensive and the train times didn’t quite work for us as we’d arrive too late to spend a full day in the city.  TomTom advised that the 30 mile journey would take 45 minutes.  In the event, 45 minutes into the journey was when we started queuing to exit the motorway; a queue that lasted a further 45 minutes before we reached the car park. We arrived, hot, bothered and hacked off – not the best of starts. In truth, it was far too hot to be doing anything at all, but we have to take the opportunities our journey offers us as we may not pass this way again.

We considered taking the cable car for a bird’s eye view of Innsbruck but at €64 we changed our minds!  It would probably have been well worth the expense if we’d arrived at the cable station earlier in the day.  We could then have taken the opportunity of a day hiking the high trails before coming back down.  But for a straight up and down visit, it didn’t seem good value.

The heat really got to us and we came back home quite exhausted.
