Monday 1st August 2016 - Staufen

  Breakfast at Belchenblick mit Roggenmischbrot

It is a beautiful day so, having caught up with the trip diary (at last), we cycle into Staufen (pronounced shtowfen to rhyme with cow pen) which is about a mile away. What a lovely surprise. It’s a lively little place with cobbled streets and a great variety of individual shops and bars.

Water runs along little channels each side of the street in front of the shops and we saw several little ones laying down and running their hands in the running water or dragging little wooden sail boats along on pieces of string. I thought how much Beck would enjoy it. The water is very clear and fast flowing but also very shallow. We take a walk around the small town and discovered the small local supermarket and lots of interesting little shops. We also managed to locate the railway station, checking on train times for tomorrow’s trip to Freiburg.
