It’s been a while since I’ve found time to read and I’m currently completely hooked into “All the light we cannot see” by Anthony Doerr. We’ve also downloaded “The Dark Tower” series by Stephen King and have starting listening to that in the evening before turning off the light. Needless to say, we start every evening by having to rewind to the part at which we fell asleep, which is usually only about ten minutes in. At this rate it will take us more than a year to get through the first book.
Just outside the gates of the site is a small carpark which seems to be busy day and night. We had assumed it was used as a park and ride for the bus into the city but took an evening stroll up there to see. There were a few cars there but they all had people in them. There were a couple of men talking together and we smiled and said hello but they looked at us as if we’d dropped from outer space and didn’t reply. At the far end of the car park is the entrance to a wood and we translated the sign that indicated it was a circular health walking route of some 2.9km in length. We hadn’t realised it was there and were a bit peeved that the campsite reception hadn’t mentioned a lovely woodland walk on the doorstep. By now it was getting dark now so we walked back to the site and dropped into reception to ask if they had a map or plan of the woodland walks. The young girl on reception advised us that Luxembourg had recently cleared the prostitutes out of the city and the gay male prostitutes had been allocated that nearby car park as somewhere they could operate from and that the area was to be avoided. Suddenly, everything became clear. Who knows what we may have come across in the woods? Brings a whole new meaning to park and ride.
We felt that we’d allowed too long a stay for visiting Luxembourg City, although a longer visit touring the wider country of Luxembourg may well have proved more interesting.
When we got back to the caravan the couple camping in a motorhome on the pitch opposite came across for a chat. They were from Hull and have been on holiday in Italy and Croatia and would be getting the ferry back home tomorrow. When we mentioned that we were moving off to Heidelberg tomorrow, the guy said there are two campsites in Heidelberg, one of which is very nice. The other one isn’t and stinks of urine! Unfortunately, he couldn’t remember which was which so we will have to wait and see.
